The
model
seen here was built from an original release of the Monogram kit with a
number of modifications
including a full lighting set using super bright LED's with switches and
battery pack under the canopy which is held in place with
magnets. Also, just for fun and demonstration purposes, a machined
aluminum armature with cover hatches is installed allowing
for the model to be mounted from the top, bottom, front and rear as
were done with the original miniatures used for motion control filming.
Yes, the lights under the wings really are on some of the original
studio models. You can see them in shots during the pilot episode where
the Raiders fly overhead as they bomb Caprica.
